We got in touch with McDonald’s in the UK after reading this story claiming that the UK recipe is different to the one detailed below.

A spokesman said:

“The only ingredients in our UK Fries are potatoes, vegetable oil (a blend of sunflower and rapeseed) and dextrose (predominantly added at the beginning of the potato season) with nothing added except a sprinkling of salt after cooking. The MailOnline says there’s an ingredient “used in Silly Putty” and a “petrol based” chemical in there, but it’s apparently fine.
